Singaporeans are some of the hardest working people in the world yet after retirement, they risk losing all purpose. This project was done locally in Singapore, in collaboration with visual communication students from LaSalle College of the Arts and design engineering students from Nanyang Technology University. In the context of a country where the issue of ageing population is pressing, our brief was to 'design for our future selves' in the area of 'leisure and learning'.
As a launching event for this campaign we created an installation that allows people to challenge their own perception of time (subjective vs objective), to introduce them to the concept of time banking. Participants were invited to reflect on their perception of time passing by traversing a small maze in the dark. At the end, they were invited to write themselves a time cheque to receive when they retire, as a reminder to invest in their future hobbies.
