Realness — Haus of Zaza

Realness

Furniture design meets drag performance.

Furniture and performance, blurred.

Realness is a term frequently used in drag culture, whose meaning has evolved over time. In the past it was about creating the perfect imitation of a woman, to the point where it would be impossible to see the man underneath. Today it expresses the fact that your experience of gender, identity, or style is as legitimate as any other — as long as you feel that it is real.

Created by Pierre Azalbert as part of his research into drag design, the piece explores design as performance. More than a seat, Realness is a wearable throne, a stage, and a statement.
